Coaching Tips

Looking for ideas on how to coach new players, practice drills, or plays you can incorporate?  Check out the Coaches' Corner folder in the documents section of the website. 

The US Lacrosse website also has a great collection of drills for boys and girls lacrosse, so be sure to check it out!

You want to expand your knowledge even further?  Take the US Lacrosse Coaching Education Program Certification.  This CEP has several components including an on-line course and clinic.

 

Requirements needed to coach:

  • US Lacrosse Membership
  • Ruters S.A.F.E.T.Y Certification (1 time certification)
  • Fingerprinting and a background check - (once every 3 yeras)
  • CPR with AED Certification - (2 year certification; required minimum of 1 coach on the field at all time with current certification)
  • US Lacrosse Level 1 Certification (girls' league only; 1 time certification)

A Reminder from US Lacrosse

Bill of Rights for Young Athletes --- After every practice and game ask yourself "did every player receive…"

1.   The right to participate in sports
2.   The right to participate at a level commensurate with each child maturity and ability
3.   The right to have qualified adult leadership
4.   The right to play as a child and not as an adult
5.   The right to share in the leadership and decision-making of their sport participation
6.   The right to participate in a safe and healthy environments
7.   The right to proper preparation in sports
8.   The right to an equal opportunity to strive for success
9.   The right to be treated with dignity
10. The right to have fun in sports

If you can answer "yes" to all ten of these items, you as a coach have insured that your players have learned the skills necessary to develop as a lacrosse player and person and have had a positive experience doing so!
